DPG State Committee Members:
My name is Vincent Mendes, and I serve as the Chair of the Floyd County Democrats. I am writing you to give my wholehearted support and endorsement to Wendy Davis for the position of Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia. I have known Wendy Davis for ten years, and although that represents just a small portion of the time she has been serving the people of Georgia, I have seen her accomplish some amazing things in that time period. These include being a City Commissioner who changed the culture of our city commission to one of responsiveness and accessibility, developed new technologies for communicating with the City, and established media relationships that helped get OUR message out in a deep red county.
Wendy is devoted to full participation in our democracy by all citizens, no matter what part of town they live in. One example of this is how she heads up the voter protection and poll watching efforts for our county at every election. This is a huge undertaking – I know this personally because on one occasion she was unable to serve in this role and did it in her place, and I can say it was a dizzying amount of work! I don’t know how it works in other counties, but in Floyd County, we have the results from every polling place texted into us as soon as the polls close. We are so efficient, that often we know the outcome of the race well before the elections supervisor! And all of this is orchestrated/managed by Wendy with an army of volunteers. She does this for no pay and very little recognition; she just believes to the bottom of her core in the right of free and fair representation, and she is willing to put that much effort into it again and again.
Wendy is also a natural builder of bridges – she has no problem talking with political opponents in order to further a common goal. And because politics often involves working with people with whom you disagree, she is smart enough to never make enemies just because they have been on the “wrong side” of an issue in the past.
But the most important thing I can say about Wendy is how completely tireless she is in serving her community. Long before she was hired by the Biden/Harris/Walz campaign, she was constantly organizing events here in Rome and surrounding areas to support the national election (and I am proud to say that Floyd county out performed all expectations in both the presidential and congressional elections in November, thanks in no small part to her efforts). And even though she is no longer a city commissioner, local people still call Wendy nearly every day with issues that they need help solving, and she literally never says “no”. She will find someone who can help with a solution to a problem no matter how big or how small that problem may be. As county chair, I myself have gone to her dozens (perhaps hundreds) of times seeking advice on how to handle issues big or small, because I know she will always have an knowledgeable and useful answer – usually has already thought of the problem and solution before I bring it up to her!
In short, Wendy Davis eats, sleeps and breaths GA politics and is utterly devoted to furthering the goals of the Democratic Party, and you would have a very hard time finding a better, more qualified or more devoted chair than her. I strongly recommend and endorse Wendy Davis for Chair of the DPG!
